This monkey statue is one of two at the Bonnet House Museum in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The original owner of the house, an artist named Frederic Clay Bartlett, had to have everything around his home in two’s. This, and another monkey, is on either side of a doorway that he designed to remind him of Haiti, even though when he painted it, he had never been to Haiti. Upon visiting Haiti, he was happy to proclaim he had captured Haiti well in his ceiling mural.
