Manarola, like the other Cinque Terre, is squeezed between the Ligurian Sea and the steep mountain range that separates the Apennines at the Monte Zatta and descends towards the south-east by the watershed between the Val di Vara and the coastal zone. The village is in the final stretch of the river valley Groppo.
