Creative Statement

If you ask Blair Collins what makes him roll out of bed each morning he will tell you it’s the clear sense of his own mortality. You have to embrace each day as if it were your last day and believe in the premise that everything happens for a reason with every passing minute another chance to turn it all around.

An Auckland, New Zealand native, Blair has travelled the world, spending time in London, Venice, Marrakech, South Africa, Singapore and Sydney, an innovative digital marketer, a creative and talented web designer, a passionate photographer and drum enthusiast, it’s not surprising that Blair has made not only a career but a lifestyle out of expressing himself visually.

Blair’s passion for photography (and drumming) started at the tender age of 15 when his father presented him with his first camera, a 35mm camera, the love affair was born. When asked to describe his style, Blair responded ‘the perception of beauty is subjective, what one person finds beautiful, another may not, for me photography is the art of observation and finding beauty in the mundane, making something ordinary extraordinary. My favourite thing to do when I travel is to get lost with my camera, I embrace myself in the culture, the life and explore every nook the city has to offer, from the back street alleys overrun with street graffiti and hardships to the magnificent architecture and landscapes’.

‘Over the years I have had the opportunity to travel to 46 countries, and during my travels have experienced incredible beauty in the most unexpected of places, this site and photographs reflect those moments of my life and I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I do’.

When asked if Blair has any advice to give regarding shooting the perfect photograph, Blair advised ‘shoot with your heart not your eyes, there is inspiration everywhere, feel it don’t just see it, your photographs should be unique to you’.

Blair will be travelling to Europe later this year and is very much looking forward to sharing photographs of this trip with you.
