Creative Statement

For some years now I have adopted a philosophy of "less is more". I describe my works by saying, "It is often more important what you take out of an image than what you leave in." I like to explore the beauty of simple, small or ordinary subjects.

I am interested in the landscape that surrounds us, but is missed naturally by our eyes. I want viewers to look at my images and to understand the beauty that was there.

Although there may be many ways to synchronize with the rhythm of the universe, I have chosen to do it looking through a camera.

ARTIST STATEMENT

It is my belief that a successful artist never truly "captures" a moment but "releases" it to others. In my photos I seek to communicate my visual perception of a specific place in time. With my photos I try to capture a sufficient scale and fidelity so that the viewer can look into the print and experience with me that visual moment.

I feel that I am working now in the most prolific and creative period of my artistic life. My time is more within my control and I can take advantage of it to shoot whenever a good opportunity arises or to spend the extra time required to perfect an image working with Heather in the production studio.
